The Keys

The Keys

Trusting God is a choice - daily and moment by moment.  In our humanness we want to be "in charge".  We want to hold the keys that open the treasure box of each day.  But that's not what God wants.  His desire is that we trust Him with our weeks, our days and our moments.

Sometimes we will trust for a little while - perhaps when things are going well or the way we want them to or the way we prayed.  We can see that God is making things happen.  It is much harder to trust when just the opposite is going on.  I believe it is more meaningful to God, however, that we trust in the times when things are not going well, when things are not going as 'we' planned, when God is quiet.

Handing God the keys in those times is what Romans 12:1 refers to as a "living sacrifice".  It is hard!  I struggled with understanding what a "living sacrifice" meant.  I studied the scripture around those words, I prayed for guidance and this is what I learned.  A sacrifice is doing something that is hard.  A sacrifice is giving something away that is of value to the giver.   A "living sacrifice" is crawling up on the altar of God and relinquishing all control.  Total surrender to God.  It is presenting yourself to God to use as He sees fit.  To do with your day as He pleases.  It's giving Him the keys.  And we do this out of trust.  Knowing that He knows what's best for us.  We do it daily, we do it moment by moment and it is a choice.

"But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, "You are my God!" My future is in your hands."
                                                                              Psalm 31: 14, 15a
